The Poughkeepsie–Newburgh–Middletown Metropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by the United States Census Bureau, was an area consisting of two counties in New York's Hudson Valley, with the cities of Poughkeepsie, Newburgh, and Middletown, and the Arlington census-designated place as its principal cities.〔(List of principal cities of Metropolitan Statistical Areas as of 2008 )〕 As of the 2010 census, the MSA had a population of 670,301 The area was centered on the urban area of Poughkeepsie-Newburgh. The Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown MSA was a component of the New York–Newark–Bridgeport, NY-NJ-CT-PA Combined Statistical Area, which had an estimated population of 22,232,494 as of July 1, 2009. As of February 2013, the Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown MSA no longer officially exists.
